Inspired by Karen Swyler

For my project I did minimalist glazework.  With one band of color circling the piece and the inside the same color, similar to the image to the right.  I also loved how her pieces fit together so one part of my work can be slid in.  I added a curved rim in contrast to the geometric structure and adding texture to make it my own. When creating my piece I did not use the same techniques as her and slab built.

Karen Swylers work

Karen Swyler was born in long island January 1976.  She currently teaches at Mill river union school district.  Karen swyler creates her work by using the potters wheel or slip casting.  When creating her work Karen swyler always makes very soft curved surfaces.  She then uses simple or bare glazes and all of her work has more than one piece to it, showing a lot of relationships in her work. All pieces are hand made and one of a kind.
